Sharpen your knives and straighten your chef hat because ‘Breathless Purple Chef’ is here! This past week Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa celebrated International Chef Day by hosting a resort-wide chef competition. This cooking contest pitted eight chefs from Breathless’ various specialty restaurants against each other to prepare a signature dish from an assortment of ingredients.
Not knowing what ingredients they could utilize until the start of the competition, chefs were put to the test to create a dish that would win them points in the categories of presentation, texture, flavor, technique and originality. As the competition heated up, guests gathered around the Freestyle Pool to watch these culinary creations come to life over the course of the 45 minute timed competition.
After the timer buzzed, each chef presented an exquisitely prepared dish to a panel of six judges, three from the resort’s executive team and three lucky guests. After a little debate, the judges declared Juan Luis Castro the winner of ‘Breathless Purple Chef’! A specialty chef at Sofrito, Breathless’ Latin-Criollo inspired restaurant, Juan knows how to combine ingredients in unique ways that always yield flavorful results and abundant compliments. Juan’s winning dish was a delicious vegetable stuffed chicken paupiette with spicy potatoes.
